The fence has weathered.
Its rails have stood through heavy snows,
spring floods,
and the slow passing of generations.
Beyond it,
the mountains rise.
Unmoved by the years.
Their jagged peaks still greet the morning light,
just as they did long before these fences
marked the valley,
A lone bison stands quietly before them.
Neither bound by the fence,
nor defined by it.
Simply belonging
to the land that shaped them both.
The West has never been one story.
It is written in mountain stone
and weathered wood,
in rivers that refuse to change their course,
and in the enduring presence
of wild things
that continue to walk these valleys.
Time has left its mark here.
The fences. The homesteads. The roads.
Yet beneath it all,
the heartbeat of the wilderness remains.
And for a quiet moment,
the land remembers itself
not as it once was,
but as it has never ceased to be.
Where the West remains.
