He carries the mountains with him,
years written in the curve of his horns,
wind and winter etched into his face.
There is something ancient in his stillness,
a quiet strength
shaped by stone, elevation, and time.
For generations beyond memory,
his kind has moved across these mountains,
following steep ridgelines
and weathered paths beneath open skies.
His great horns are more than a crown,
they are a record,
formed slowly through seasons survived,
through winter and struggle,
through a life lived wild.
Long before roads crossed these mountains,
before boundaries divided the land,
bighorn sheep belonged to the high places.
And standing before him,
for just a moment,
the distance between then and now
seems to disappear.
Ancient Crown is a portrait of endurance
of the quiet permanence of the wild,
and of an American West
that was here long before us.
