I had tried an Oculus for the first time just a few weeks before I made this piece. My family definitely had some good laughs when I high-fived everyone around me (as I landed from a parachute jump in cyberspace). Anyway, aside from the funny moments, I couldn’t stop thinking about it on another level. Just that this new futuristic Metaverse reality, seemed to almost mirror the state of our country politically, and the different realities/perceptions/narratives of what we have about what is real or true. So I was just playing around with that idea when I created this picture. The backdrop was across the street at my sister’s fixer upper house, that stairway had yet to have a railing installed, but lent itself to a graphic geometric shape that I liked. The characters were willing neighbors. If there’s any commentary here, it’s maybe an optimistic and hopeful look into the future, where we put our differences aside, and all exist together harmoniously.
