And suddenly there she was, cresting over the ridge and shining through the clouds. Years of plotting and mapping and plans, dreaming of roads long forgotten in a land once rich with gold. Countless hours on cold nights spent mending the truck— the chariot, the gas hungry horse that has yet to fail me in the wilderness. Grinding rubber against sharp rocks, plunging the nose into yet another deep river and hoping it will all be worth it on the other side. And after all of this, when the sun bounced off the ancient ice and the hills lit afire with the sun’s farewell, my mountain was finally before me. My golden prize for a fool’s ambition. My kingdom come, blessing the journey with a scene reserved for heaven itself.
