Obedientia

Obedientia emerges as a reflection on blind faith as a primal emotion, a force that drives the individual beyond reason toward absolute surrender. Inspired by the biblical story of Isaac’s sacrifice, the piece encapsulates the tension between obedience to divine will and the human instinct to protect life and love. It represents faith as a driving force that doesn't question, but acts, existing in a delicate balance between chaos and order, certainty and uncertainty. Through generative systems that integrate real-time data, sound, and personal brainwave readings, Obedientia transcends static representation, becoming an experience in constant transformation, where faith isn't only observed but actively lived. Blind faith is visualized as a play of structured and organic forms, reflecting the duality between submission and inner turmoil, awakening a counterbalance of love and protection for loved ones. Particles move in infinite, changing patterns: some rigid, others fluid, evoking the fragility of belief that must either be sustained or fade away. The piece takes shape from the real-time reading of the artist's own brain activity while reflecting on faith, becoming an external reflection of an internal state. This data modulates the movement of generative elements, creating a system as unpredictable as faith itself. The work incorporates sculptural and pictorial references from the Renaissance, deconstructing and reconfiguring them through digital techniques. Classical hands, frozen in gestures of plea or sacrifice, appear fragmented but interconnected. Flowers like thistles and anemones, symbols of suffering and redemption, emerge and dissolve within the composition, reinforcing the cyclical nature of belief. A third, omnipresent element—an abstract force—acts as the divine, disrupting the balance at will, unseen and incompletely understood, but always present. Obedientia invites the viewer into an experience where faith is more tension than resolution, where surrender doesn't come without struggle. By integrating personal biofeedback, sound-reactive generative systems, and dynamic visual structures, the piece becomes a living, evolving manifestation of belief in its purest, unquestionable form. Through digital language, Obedientia reinterprets Renaissance drama, incorporating movement and reactivity as living elements within the composition. The work is neither static nor final; instead, it fluctuates, breathes, and transforms in real-time, much like faith itself, oscillating between absolute certainty and profound doubt. This piece was created during Primavera Digitale Artists Residency.
