Steeper, Stronger, Faster: AVUS 100 Years
One of motor-racing’s most unusual circuits hosted its inaugural race 100 years ago on 24th September 1921. AVUS, located on the outskirts of Berlin, became famed for the steep 43-degree banking introduced in 1936, and its high average lap speed, owing to it effectively being two drag strips.
Featured in the Fine Art are two cars in hot pursuit around the sharply angled banking, one where Auto Union’s Bernd Rosemeyer set the speed record in 1937 that continued to remain unbroken for 40 years.
