THE GARDENER

I was watching a video about Van Gogh and his painting The Gardener, and something it said stuck with me. The video mentioned a theory that the figure in the painting might actually represent Christ, a reference to the moment in the Bible when Mary Magdalene mistakes the risen Jesus for a gardener. That idea hit me hard. I’ve been on my own search for Christ, a personal, spiritual journey that’s taken many forms. When I look at The Gardener, I see more than a portrait of a laborer. I see someone tending to something deeper, maybe even someone rediscovering their faith through their work, the way Van Gogh might have been. This piece is my response to that. A reflection of what it means to seek, to wrestle with belief, and to uncover parts of yourself in the process. Like Van Gogh, I’m still figuring it out, but the act of creating is part of the journey.
