EL DESPERTAR DE MOCTEZUMA

Created for the exhibition "Un Sueño Digital" in Mexico City this 3D artwork visualizes the tragic fall of the Aztec Empire. The central figure is enveloped in a marble-like texture generated from 3D scans of the Florentine Codex—the historical record of the first contact between the Spanish and the Aztecs. Suspended between two pyramids that symbolize the cardinal points and the sum of Moctezuma’s eight terrifying prophecies, the figure is surrounded by floating debris; the rocks represent the Emperor’s death by stoning, while chains and charred textures symbolize greed and destruction. The piece is designed to rotate 365 degrees, mirroring the steps of pre-Hispanic temples and the solar year, sealing the destiny of a civilization in a cosmic loop.
