I've had a fifty-year love affair with landscapes and have been fascinated to see the things that have changed and the things that have stayed much the same over that period. In just the last couple of years, I have tried to meld those TradArt images into new directions by the use of digital tools, and that process has also been revealing. This work is based on an acrylic painting that has been sliced into sections and modified through machine learning algorithms, carefully focused and adjusted for texture, contrast, and detail and then reassembled. When I remain mindful of basic design principles, I've found that I can manage the image in ways that make artistic sense and do not devolve into a literal uncanny valley.
