This piece is the beginning of a selection of works depicting the loss of the human self as we become increasingly digitised - 'defleshed: mode'.
Inspired by two years of lockdown induced isolation from colleagues the artist began to feel as an entirely separate entity to their real life form. During a short period of inactivity due to injury, the artist was increasingly cut off from those colleagues which only served to exacerbate the feeling of being merely a number on the end of an email or direct message. The humanity was disappearing.
This particular piece was first envisaged during a time of anxiety, isolation and frustration. While glaring in to the void of the black empty screen much time passed, and eventually the screen began to stare back.
This immensely personal piece was realised in January of 2022 after recovery of injury.
Sculpted in ZBrush, further enhanced in Cinema 4D and finalised in Photoshop.
