Interpretation is freedom. We are not a collective mind and the unique way in which we interpret the world around us (including art) is something very personal yet has the ability to connect likened minds. It's a gift, one which can be extremely profound.
I wanted to create something that captures this profound moment. A moment in which life can never be quite the same and of which we take forward with us as an experience and something to reflect on and gain insight from.
There is some symbolism here for me also. As an experimental artist I often find myself in a rabbit hole, a 'void' which is either dark or light but often with equal amounts of both which none the less allows me to take something from that space and bring it back with me.
There are hints in this piece which can flip how one see's this. In the background I have left a small doorway, one could interpret this as just a door or one could perhaps think of it as an entrance into the mind. Such is the beauty of interpretation.
I like the idea of art interpreting the artist or the viewer, inverting the mechanic and this is how the piece ends. Was the trip through the tunnel something that actually happened or was it a metaphor from the mind, played out internally with a significant effect on the viewer. I could talk about this forever but it's probably best if I leave you to consider it.
As always all of my work is created in Maya and Bifrost with much time was spent on cinematography, camera angles, lighting, mood and simulations. This piece is the longest I have spent on a piece of animated art to date.
