This very Rare image defines art as a whole. I was astounded to capture this image. Not many will recognize numbers on this Image. Or title of this until they read below.
I have not seen any other image captured during Mauna Loa 2022 eruption in this authentic fashion. The architecture shows not only facts but defined landscape.
To capture it in one image was my goal. With a helicopter moving and doors being off. The option with lens was not in my favor. It was impossible to switch out any lens let alone holding onto all camera gear as the pilot navigates around the eruption. It was very hot up there especially since heat does rise. Felt like we were in a boiling pot 13,000 ft in the air.
The bottom of this image features Mauna Loa 1950 Eruption. The landscape is very brittle rocks nearly impossible for the average person to know what transpired. Being the geek I am I do focus on capturing the entirety of the event. Real time images can be taken by the masses creating art takes a very different mindset.
The right of active lava is brittle yet light black color. This event was of 1984. Lava caves and rocks are still very much in tack. Architecture from 1984 looks very vibrant with a sheen like look. Seeing it from the road it reflects off the sun.
Active lava you see is of Dec 2022. Every event has been spread out by 3 plus decades. The largest Active Volcano in the world... Mauna Loa
