Tiger sharks are large, powerful sharks known for their distinctive stripes, which fade as they age. They're found in tropical and subtropical waters around the world and are considered one of the ocean’s top predators. Tiger sharks have a very broad diet — they’re sometimes called "garbage eaters" because they'll consume almost anything, from fish and sea turtles to license plates and tires (seriously!).
They can grow up to 14–18 feet (4–5.5 meters) long and are second only to great white sharks in the number of recorded attacks on humans — though attacks are rare overall. Tiger sharks are solitary hunters, mostly active at night.
