Dark forces arise in a 2009 theory to explain various experimental results in high-energy astrophysics. The theory proposes that dark matter WIMPs can decay into force-carrying particles, denoted by the Greek letter phi. The phi particles would be associated with a new force of nature, distinct from the strong force, weak force, electromagnetism, and gravity.
