"Disciples" subverts traditional religious iconography, presenting a woman in the role usually held by Jesus. Amidst an intimate entanglement of nude figures, the scene treads a line between the sacred, sensual, and even the commercial, evoking the stylized decadence and worship of high-class advertising. The provocative reinterpretation challenges conventions, blurring the boundaries of devotion, desire, divine, and the cultish undertones. This cryptic ceremony calls into question our definitions of religion and cult, posing an alternate reality that defies norms and marries the reverential with the commercial in a striking image.
