Elizabeth Quinn Sleeping

Digital/physical hybrid painting. A portrait of our infant daughter sleeping on a mattress by our bedroom window. A black dress is laid out on the bed, a symbol of the woman she will eventually grow to be. The open window becomes a metaphor for her life's journey and the world out there she will face full of challenges and uncertainty. This work has had a long and complex history, beginning as a small poloroid taken in the moment in 1998. This photo was later translated into a graphite drawing that was then scanned and manipulated into a full color digital painting. This digital painting served as a model for a 6 color hand-pulled stone lithograph which was produced for the Corcoran 2005 Print Portfolio and exhibited at the Corcoran Museum of Art in Washington D.C. The print was acquired by many museums, including the National Gallery of Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Library of Congress and San Francisco Art Museum to name a few. The lithograph was later scanned and reworked digitally, transforming it into a night image for this NFT.
