In the world the sisters came from... the "Ghetto" of earthly life... worship was never quiet. It was communal. Loud. Embodied. A roar of collective joy that moved through bodies and rooms and generations, refusing to be contained by walls or ordinances or the expectations of those who had never needed it the way they did. "The Quietest Hallelujah" is about what happens to that sound in the suburbs. The transition from the Ghetto to the Better Beyond is not only a spatial one — it is an auditory erasure. The vibrant, loud, communal worship of a life fully inhabited is replaced, in the celestial cul-de-sac, by a sanitised, individualistic silence. A whispered prayer. Their bond was never a quiet thing. It was forged in the chaos and warmth of the world...in the loud, overlapping, joyful, painful register of two people who chose each other across every circumstance. To enter the suburbs would mean agreeing to lower the volume of everything that made them who they are.
