The great fear of this collection is not death. It is a partition. "Subdivision of the Saints" is a visual interrogation of the spiritual geography of sisterhood...the logistics of what happens when two souls who have been each other's coordinates in the living world are processed through the intake system of the eternal one. Do they arrive at the same gated lot? Do you remember one another? Will you be able to wait? Or is one left pacing pristine, silent sidewalks, waiting for the other to clear intake? This is the central nightmare of the Law of the Twin Tenants. In ancient traditions, sisters have always been understood as two sides of the same coin... inseparable forces of life and rebirth. But the "Better Beyond" was not designed with bonds in mind. It was designed for individual units. Separate deeds. Sterile, manicured peace for one. The collection's mythology is direct: if the sisters do not transition at the same moment, the first becomes a Holding Tenant. She does not move into her lot. She does not accept her upgrade. She rattles around the massive, empty corridors of the celestial subdivision, waiting. Refusing. Because a paradise entered alone is not paradise at all...it is just a quieter kind of ghetto, with better lighting and no neighbours she actually knows. This piece sits in that waiting.
