Who are you?

Jesse Yaun, a.k.a. Papa Bear. Atlanta, GA native based out of Asheville, NC. I’m an artist specializing in 3D, animation, graphic design, and clothing design. I’ve been an independent artist for about 5 years now, but an artist my whole life! Prior to most of my digital design work, I was a live painter- music festivals would bring me out to paint, usually as an added element to the music. Working in a live setting, I was able to combine my love of music with bringing art to the table. Eventually, I was welcomed to VJ for some events, mixing some short animations I had made, projected or displayed on an LED wall. Seeing my work on the big screen only inspired me further. Throughout my time painting and VJing, I met numerous fellow artists, some of whom inspired me to jump more into the 3D realm. 2 years later, most of my art now is made using the likes of C4D, Octane Render Engine, Z-Brush, X-Particles, and After Effects.

Tell us a little about your style of work

My work consists of numerous aspects that are a big influence. Ancient history and civilizations have always fascinated me, just as much as the future societies. Combining the two, making scenes sketched in my memory banks is the basis of most of my work. Ancient Greece, Egypt, and South American civilizations have a big impact on my style of work. Deities are a common theme throughout my work, as I’ve always been fascinated with world religion, the figures our ancestors looked towards for guidance and hope. 3D forms, glowing elements contrasting nature, and future structures counterbalancing ancient worlds. Digital landscapes combined with archaic cultures. “Portals” I like to call them, and I am the portal maker.

Portals, you say?

I like to think of my scenes as windows/snapshots of other dimensions, or future worlds. Each one has an aesthetic and environment unique to itself, a moment in time in a distant place. With the constant stressors of life, I like to daydream a bit and think of impossible realms that could be. Most of my daydreams eventually make it into my work represented one way or another. For instance, my “PR0PHET” series, I imagined a place far in the clouds where each floating island was governed and controlled by an entity. This touches on the theory of creation/creator, and how for tens of thousands of years humans have had a constant belief of a divine creator. Each piece has underlying themes, some more apparent than others. After hours of work, to see my original vision come to life is a big part of why I do what I do.

Any inspirations for your work?

I’ve been following a few people for numerous years, most notably Stuz0r, JPierce, Brickspacer, am2pointoh, Ben Ridgway, and Baran.Sarper. My friends and fellow artists are always inspiring me too, constantly coming out with something rad- Cartoon Advisory, DiethylamideVisuals, PeenPoon, ClearVoid, Glass Crane, Parrot_ism, and Mezmer… too many to name really I could keep going! With new talent coming out of the woodworks every day, it’s hard to smash my follow/like button quick enough (haha).

What do you hope to bring to SuperRare?

My hope is to bring my style of art to an already talented market, as well as to eventually collect some work I admire along the way. I’m seriously blown away by some of the work on this site, I’m honored to be part of it! It’s a great way to connect to my following, and grow new friends and followers along the way. The collecting aspect brings me back to the days of Pokemon/Yugioh where everyone would be looking to acquire the latest/rarest cards out there. With NFTs gaining steam, the whole market is one intriguing game of Pokemon. The integration of VR into it brings whole new life to displaying your NFTs. I’m taken back by the amount of communities growing within the cryptoart world, it will be the future of gallery art. With so many talented artist friends already on SuperRare already, I’m stoked for the future and what’s to come!

What’s the future look like for you?

My vision is to continue growing as a 3D artist, implementing what I learn in each new composition, to depict my conceptualization more precisely. In a way, I hope to be a 3D “Renaissance Man” of sorts-new softwares and plugins are constantly coming out and I plan on finding ways to incorporate the ones I learn into each piece I release. With so much going on in the world right now, I truly believe art has its place now more than ever. It’s always been an escape from the harsh realities, and if I can contribute to that escape for just a second, you’d best believe I will

I’m always open to connect with other artists and collectors, feel free to contact me through Instagram or Twitter, let’s talk art! (@PapaBearArts)
