Meet Nolan Pelletier

My name is Nolan Pelletier. Nice to meet you. I make vibrant art that I hope will make you a little dizzy. My work is all about pattern, color, detail and combining unexpected elements from different historical eras.

I grew up in Connecticut, but I now live in Toronto, Canada. I love the old architecture in my neighborhood and I often steal details from different buildings to use in my work.

Here are some recent endless loops I’ve made. I’ve been enjoying figuring out ways to translate my blotted ink line work and shading to animation. I’ve also been experimenting with VR and 3D translations of my work, and hope to share those soon.

I designed this tiger pattern for the fashion designer Anna Sui. She’s one of my favorite collaborators. She produced knitwear, jewellery, and dresses featuring this design. Last year it was used as set decoration for the Netflix mini-series “The Queen’s Gambit” along with one of my other illustrations.

Lately I’ve been designing fictional packages. I collect antique tins and packaging, and wanted to try my hand at creating my own. I made a limited edition run of the cat food cans, and hope to get some lithographed tins printed at a factory soon. 

I also publish an annual illustrated newspaper, ‘The Somnolent Garden Rambler’. I’ve published three issues so far and I enjoy the opportunity to write, design, and illustrate an entire publication. I distribute it for free around Toronto and New York. It’s fun getting to be a control freak.
