Bridging the Gap between Technology and Poetry: The Transparency Collection

VyleArt claims the digitally underused world of transparency. In opacity there is simplicity of experience: there not there, off or on. With transparency, there is infinite nuance and complexity of communication. 

VyleArt’s transparency collection plays with light and how gradients of opacity affect its intensity. The images in the collection include bubbles made of sophisticated materials and complex experimental machines. His pieces are futuristic projections of current technologies. VyleArt imagines a future in which consciousness may travel as data to reaches of the universe beyond our physical capacities. He envisions the storing of minds as data. In the darkness of this future, there is the promise of immortality and evolution of human consciousness. His machines are prototypes for such projects and invite the viewer into a meditative state in which they can see themselves reflected in these potentials.   

The introductory piece, “Consciousness Mover”, starts auctioning on Wednesday, March 24th, 2021.

It is a cinematic painting ideally installed and framed as a horizontal meditative piece of art. An experimental machine, the “Consciousness Mover”, is an imaginary prototype that allows consciousness to move as data from one body (mechanical or organic) to another, transported by a ray of light. High altitude is necessary to avoid transmission noise through the atmosphere. The “Consciousness Mover” is composed of a set of lenses which send a ray of light to a similarly equipped receiver.

Being at high altitude, with clouds passing by, VyleArt’s goal was to create an atmosphere of clean, sharp, and cold clarity. The beam of light slicing through the composition offers a clear direction to the viewer. At the same time as the eye moves in, we are comfortably constrained by the slow regular movement of the ring. The machinery–immense and ominous–feels dangerous, and yet due to its material and color choices, strikes us as trustworthy. The image though sharp, is never static, as the glints created by the perfect glassy surface constantly interfere with our sense of regularity and yield a dynamic surprise.  

VyleArt plays with an unconscious reading of the shape and rotation in the image as a jet engine. The mind registers this association and instantly credits the machinery with an extra layer of believability. The beam projector design brings to mind a sea creature. The goal with this choice was to inject graceful movement and life into the immobile object.  

VyleArt’s “Consciousness Mover” ultimately invites the questions: at what point does matter break down into data? Does our consciousness contain a soul, or are we a conglomerate of data? If the latter, can this data be transferred? And, if we are both data and soul, what happens when only data is transferred?

With a background in industrial design and architecture, VyleArt has been sought after in the video-game and movie industries. Directors including Ridley Scott, James Cameron, Brad Bird, Joseph Kosinski and others seek him out for the atmospheres he delivers which are evocative and feel alive. VyleArt’s personal work is focused on industrial machines and fast-moving vehicles that are infused with poetic elements and references to the natural world: ocean, desert, sky and animal life.
