a short film by Danny Stern visually recapping the monumental year of 2020.

For me, like many others, 2020 was challenging to say the least. The whole year felt like blow after blow after blow. Each monumental moment seemed to be superseded by the next, dwarfing it in comparison.

I found myself wanting to make a film to mark the year, a testament to everything we’d experienced up until that point. So, in September, with a few quiet weeks and a whole lot of lingering frustration, I managed to channel my thoughts into a visual narrative.

The result was ‘// 2020 FORESIGHT //’, a short animated film that served as a visual recap of what, as a planet, we’d been through. Leading up to the US Presidential Election, I also wanted it to serve as a mini call to action, to vote for change and set the course for a better 2021.

I’m really proud of the finished piece, I was able to mix 2D and 3D design and animation, push myself with new techniques, and produce a finished product that was more than just a fun loop for Instagram.

While we can’t say 2021 started exactly smoothly, to me it feels like the horizon is clearing. Vaccines are being rolled out, the political furnace has been somewhat extinguished and maybe, just maybe, this year will bring the change we’ve all been hoping for.

Already, the NFT space has been a beacon of light in the creative community, sparking new energy and pushing people to create and connect. Being new to the space, it’s been incredible seeing so many positive interactions between artists and collectors. It’s also been inspiring to see so many artists collecting other artists’ work and driving each other to succeed.

While no one could have foreseen the horror show of 2020, I am at least hopeful that we can put it all behind us and strive for a better year ahead.
