In the Shadow of Granite

He stands in the gathering shadows as the last light leaves the stone, a quiet figure beneath the ancient face of the mountain. Half Dome fades into dusk above him, its edges softened by the hour when day releases its hold. The buck does not move. He belongs to this pause between light and dark, where time loosens its grip and the world remembers how to be still. The pause, a brief moment, becomes eternal. Antlers rise like branches of those who came before, shadowed and deliberate, as if shaped by the same patience that carved the granite overhead.
