Timeless

My first black and white image and first 16x9 formatted piece. This image is a glimpse into our history in the Western United States. This scene that I captured would have looked the same hundreds of years ago, and I could not be more thankful. Thanks to the protection of Yellowstone National Park and the conservation efforts in the early 1900s to save the remaining 24 or so bison in the park, today we can see scenes that have played out over centuries in the park. This image was captured in February, 2018 in - 31 degree temperatures in Lamar Valley, Yellowstone as a blizzard cleared. This has been a favorite image of mine for years but I held onto it as it never seemed finished until now. I have been a photographer for over 10 years and have never been interested in black and white photography, until this summer. I was in a creative rut. I was struggling to get out with my camera. I spent some time camping in the mountains and realized the images I was creating were meant to be black and white and I couldn't wait to edit them. During my time away, I realized why I had not brought this image to life yet...it was meant to be in black and white. It wasn't time until now. It needed to show the viewer what a photo could have looked like from this same exact spot anytime in the last two hundred years. It is timeless.
