This work comes from my own childhood perception of the suburbs as places that were inherently safer than the inner city. After living in several suburban communities, that distinction became much less certain. Darkness does not disappear when the surroundings become quieter, greener, or more manicured. Sometimes it is simply better concealed.
This NFT includes the original one-of-one physical artwork, Safe Neighborhood. The piece was created on a gesso-primed canvas using hand-cut collage and layered acrylic paint, with rhinestones and acrylic glitter paint added throughout the composition. These reflective elements respond to changes in light and viewing angle, giving the physical artwork a dimensional quality that cannot be fully captured in a digital image. The completed work is finished with varnish for protection and preservation.
