After a long day driving through the tundra (day 5 of the expedition) , we decided to head to the coast to watch the sunset over Hudson Bay.
We weren’t the only ones there, though… This bear was already making her home. She noticed us, but she didn’t seem to mind.
We kept our distance for a while, soaking in the view… the scene was absolutely stunning, with a beautiful light casting a warm glow on the usually barren landscape (we were mostly covered in snow and facing strong winds during this expedition).
As we got a bit closer, she started grooming herself and posed in some funny ways, like sitting up straight, lying on her back with her arms stretched out far…
After a few moments, she got up and continued along the coast.
Exploring the Arctic wilderness can be risky: extreme weather, dangerous wildlife, and more… you need to stay focused and alert at all times. This moment felt special not only because of the interesting behavior and the beautiful scenery, but also because it felt like a welcome break.
It wasn’t about dangers, conservation, or even photography. It was one of those moments when you’re just watching life happening in front of you and you can’t look away, completely captivated.
