Madrid was soaked with rain and so was I.
I was late for the meeting with my editor, I was angry, a book can't be done in just 3 months, I needed the money but what if I don't go? I mean, they're going to cut down trees to make a book I'm going to hate. Fuck it! I'm not going.
I wandered into a bar with awful signage. They advertised breakfast on a yellow sign like in a gold-buying and selling shop. I guessed it would be cheap.
Carla served me 6 “churros” and a chocolate. I didn't know her name yet but it struck me that such an interesting girl worked in such a depressing bar. She was like Penelope Cruz in an Almodovar film. I had to paint this girl.
I put my portfolio on top of the bar pretending to order some work, just to get her attention. It worked, she came over with a cloth in her hand and gestured for me to remove my stuff so she could wipe the bar.
She didn't say a word. A timely withdrawal is a victory so I decided to put my work away quickly, so much so that I didn't close the zip of the portfolio and the illustrations fell on the floor which was full of shit!
Yes, I shouted shit too.
Carla came over to help me.
Oh how beautiful, what a pity they got smudged! She said with real pity.
_Now I'll have to paint a new one, have you ever been painted? 😏
