When conditions align just right, Mother Nature puts on a magical show that brings crowds from all over to Yosemite National Park to witness Firefall. With the perfect angle of the setting sun, clear skies to the west and enough snow pack to power Horsetail Fall, the waterfall ignites as if lava was cascading out from the El Capitan.
This is an edited animation from a single still photograph taken as the sun was illuminating the mist from the falls turning it into golden spray.
A grueling hike lugging up all my camera gear on an unmarked wash provided me with unobstructed views of this majestic scene above the tree line. A magical moment of some of the most incredible light that I will never forget.
