Through the Forest of Sight

This artwork is incredibly meaningful to me as it represents my personal journey with my eyesight. When I visited my eye doctor, he told me that my optic nerves looked like swiss cheese due to Axenfeld-Rieger Syndrome and Glaucoma. This was a very difficult realization to face, but I wanted to create a piece of art that captures the experience. In the artwork, you can see an eye laying on the ground with what's called "bean potting" on the optic nerve, which represents the physical manifestation of Glaucoma. The eye symbolizes my own experience with these conditions and the challenges they have brought into my life. However, the artwork is not entirely bleak. I am depicted walking away from a dark forest, which represents my journey towards a brighter future despite these obstacles. This piece captures the hope that I hold for the future and the strength I have found within myself to face these challenges head-on. Overall, this artwork is a powerful representation of my personal journey with Axenfeld-Rieger Syndrome and Glaucoma, capturing the difficult realities I face, while also reflecting the hope and courage that sustain me.
