This painting was created through a system of symbols that are often self-referential, combining geometric elements and organic forms with a deep love for art history.
With A perception of Hell I explore imagined spaces tied to moments of transition between the material and the spiritual. To build this world, I draw from many sources: gestures from my own practice, references from modern art, and visual elements inspired by works of Bosch which I reinterpreted using traditional techniques.
I abstracted forms, colors, and symbols to propose a new visual narrative. My intention is to transform the experience of the original works with a contemporary perspective.
The images, characters, and symbols in the painting dissolve, merge, and shift just like their meanings. As a woman artist, I find it meaningful to revisit and reinterpret works by male masters from a time when women were not allowed to study painting, adding my own voice and point of view.
The result is a complex composition where geometric and organic forms coexist, made entirely by hand using oil on canvas.
Through this work, I invite reflection on the evolution of society, spirituality, and the human condition today.
