"The Flood" captures an absurd yet compelling scene where reality, symbolism, and historical norms clash.
The focal point is a black police officer with hands upraised, leading a group of four white officers down a flood-swamped city street. All marching in their dress uniforms.
The level of pageantry, and the refined trappings of authority turns this peculiar procession into a public spectacle, a parade in a flood, further heightening the absurdity of the scene.
In the face of the murky flood that hints at climate change repercussions, the parade continues unabated, as if refusing to acknowledge the severity of the situation – a testament to human resilience, or perhaps, a critique of our collective denial?
The scene is captured in a vintage film-still aesthetic, heightening the sense of absurdity and unreality. This image teems with underlying currents of race, power, climate change, and societal norms, frozen in a moment of defiance and paradox.
