The Resilient Herd
In the hush of winter’s deepest breath,
where the world is softened by endless white,
they trudge.
Two mothers carved from earth and endurance,
their form dark against the pale silence.
Snow surrounds them
like the memory of storms survived,
each flake a whisper of cold
they have learned not to fear.
At their sides,
small shadows embrace their first winter.
Calves, new to the language of wind.
pressing close for safety.
They lean instinctively
into the quiet gravity of their mothers,
where life persists not loudly, but surely.
No movement is wasted.
No sound breaks the sacred stillness
but the soft exhale of resilience.
And in that frozen expanse,
beneath a sky that offers no mercy,
They are not fragile. They are not lost.
They are the enduring pulse of the wild,
steadfast, unyielding,
a living testament
that even in the coldest silence,
life gathers, protects, and continues.
