MADAME EQUALITY

She was promised long before she arrived. Her name appears in constitutions, speeches, and declarations. Written carefully into the language of the law as if the act of naming her would make her real. Equality. But promises have a strange habit of floating above the surface of the world. Here she stands — composed, luminous, almost ceremonial — a figure dressed in the symbols of justice and reform. Yet the line across her gaze feels less like balance and more like a boundary. Because equality has always existed first as an idea. A word repeated often enough that societies begin to believe it has already been achieved. But ideas do not enforce themselves. And so Madame Equality waits, suspended somewhere between principle and reality. Still named. Still promised. Still unfinished.
