In this painting, Charles paints his friend Theo. A man whom he had apparently met one night, drinking. The vivid yellow provides a sense of calm and radiates a platonic yet sensual aura. Inscription (from reverse): Theo, 24, a joy, a dear friend. Met over beers one evening. Many irreverent evenings of gossip followed.
