Jabuticaba

When I was a kid, at my parents’ house we had two jabuticaba trees, a sweet, black, round fruit (its name comes from the Tupi language: îapoti’kaba, meaning “the place where the fruits grow”). The shade those trees gave felt like an oasis, and in the middle of all that heat, that cool shadow was a blessing. When they blossomed, they would be covered in flowers, and every bud would turn into a delicious fruit. Childhood always seemed so innocent and good, right? A wave of nostalgia floods my heart. The RGB colors in this painting are a nod to the toy aesthetics of the 90s, for me, everything had those shades. Innocence was pink, mystery was blue, blood was red. And green? Well, green looked like the future. Welcome to my future, while looking at my past, with the present carried in my chest, full of pride.
