Edsger W. Dijkstra was one of the most influential figures of computing science's founding generation. His path breaking work on concurrency, semaphores, mutual exclusion, finding shortest paths in graphs, fault-tolerance and self-stabilization form the pillars on which the field of distributed computing is built. In this image you can trace Edsger's path through the various organizations he graced until the end of his life by applying the famous Dijkstra's algorithm for finding the shortest path.
