Mano del Desierto

The Hand of the Desert... Truly one of the most incredibly bizarre sights I have come across on my travels. It's exactly what it looks like. A massive sculpture of a hand out in the middle of nowhere. It was created by Chilean sculptor Mario Irarrázabal and is located deep in the Atacama Desert. The sculpture is meant to emphasize human vulnerability and helplessness, but my mind couldn't help but wander. At first glance it looks like a massive deity is reaching out from the depths of the Earth and up into the cosmos. Or... Like the Earth itself is trying to give a passerby the most massive high-five they've ever gotten. You BETTER believe that I knocked "high-fiving planet Earth" off of my bucket list with this one. For the concept of this image I decided to have my friend wear a red dress and walk towards this monolithic structure to offer a sense of scale in this otherworldly scene.
