My Birthday

Every year I try to create a special piece for my birthday, and this year, the first person to wish me a happy birthday was my father. Stay with me in this painting, walking side by side, even if you're on the horse and I'm on foot—we walk together. But it wasn't always like this. Three years ago, he had a stroke, and from a life that was once distant from mine, he began to depend on me. I stayed at the hospital for three months, by his side, hoping for his recovery, and then, finally, he returned home. Since then, we are no longer strangers; we are friends, and that has changed so much. It made me forgive his distance when I was a child, it made me forgive the dog he ran over, and it made me forgive all the sexism he used to express.
