The halo in this drawing represents the peacefulness I feel in times of solitude in nature. In these moments, I feel awe and a deep connection with the world that surrounds me. "Halo" encompasses my hope for the future of the earth and its children.
This work draws on memories of hiking through the ancient, surreal landscape of Bryce Canyon while I was pregnant. At the time, doctors were worried that my child wasn’t growing properly, and I was overcome with worry. But along that hike, I encountered a tree thriving in the most inhospitable place. Witnessing nature’s resilience gave me hope, and I sent my own wish for new growth into the world.
